Preparing for the Next Pandemic: Lessons from COVID-19

This meeting, both a conference and a dialogue, is open to all interested public. The speaker roster includes prominent academic, social and economic experts who will share data and analysis of their investigations on the many facets of society that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The social, health, scientific, communication and economic consequences will be discussed individually and collectively by the speakers in this 2-day dialogue.

This meeting will take place a hybrid format, that is, both in-site and on-line. All presentations and discussions are scheduled in morning sessions, Peru time, compatible with afternoon sessions in Spain, the two countries where meeting participants are expected to be more numerous.

In order to participate in one or the other modality, an online registration is required on this website.

  Context

  LIINCGLOBAL is an initiative by the Spanish National Science Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, CSIC) to promote the training and enhanced capabilities of Latin American researchers and to encourage the creation and reinforcement of scientific networks between Spanish and Latin American scientists and research teams. More specifically, the aim of LINCGLOBAL 2022 is to organize meetings, dialogues and symposia in 2022, 2023 and 2024, focused on the molecular determinants of environmental factors on the pathophysiology and development of severe disease in humans, in a bilateral collaboration between CSIC and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in Lima.

  Although our interests, as the organizing committee, on environmental factors as disease determinants are broad and diverse, we will place particular emphasis on the effects of hypobaric hypoxia resulting from residence at high altitude (≥ 2,500 m above sea level). From a global perspective, Peru’s unique geographical and anthropological characteristics make it an exceptional region to study the molecular effects and consequent disease modulation of high-altitude hypoxia on human populations, as well as on any other living being.

  In this first edition of LINCGLOBAL 2022, given the historically exceptional circumstances associated to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have deemed it appropriate to devote time and space to relevant considerations on the lessons learnt from the current pandemic, and whether they are preparing us better to face future pandemics.
